DAY 6 CHALLENGE: Make An Anxiety Buddy
How To Meet Todays Goal:
Call up a trusted friend that doesn’t know that you struggle with anxiety and have an honest and open talk with them. Tell them that you’re participating in a 30 Day Anxiety Challenge and today’s goal is to make an an anxiety buddy. Tell them your anxiety story with honesty and sincerity. Educate them on what the symptoms of an anxiety attack or panic attack are and what helps you personally if you’re having one. Send them this link on “What Is Anxiety & What Are The Symptoms” if you think it would be helpful for them to have a primer. Most likely, this person will be happy you opened up to them. Guess what? You now have an anxiety buddy!
How It Helps Anxiety:
Having a support system in place is extremely important when you suffer from anxiety and panic. Sometimes you can feel like you’re crazy. (You’re not.) Sometimes you can feel like you’re so alone. (With 40 million people suffering from anxiety in the US alone, you’re not).
You may have already told someone – or even many people – about your anxiety. With this challenge, tell someone else. The more people in your life that are aware that you sometimes suffer from anxiety attacks, the bigger your support system is. The bigger your support system is, the more you are able to be confident living life with the knowledge that if you have an anxiety attack, you always have a few anxiety buddies that you could contact if you needed to talk.
This Is Not Codependency
It is important to note that what you are looking to do is not to create a codependent relationship where you are relying solely on this person. This person will not be able to “cure” anxiety or “save you”. An anxiety buddy is simply someone who may be able to be available to you if you need someone to talk to.
Wrap-Up:
Building a support system is so important to managing anxiety and panic. Imagine having diabetes and never telling a soul. Seems silly right? You have nothing to be ashamed of. Call up that friend and build your support system.
