Madonna Gives Emotional, Inspirational Speech On Unity
Madonna stops a sold out show in Stockholm to give emotional, inspirational speech on tragic Paris terrorist attacks.
Madonna, the best-selling female artist in history, gave an emotional speech in the middle of her show in Stockholm this past Saturday. Only a day after the devastating terrorist attacks in Paris, playing on her sold out Rebel Heart Tour, Madonna stopped the show to address the 45,000 fans gathered at the Tele2 Arena in Sweden. While acts such as U2, Foo Fighters and Coldplay cancelled shows around the world in the wake of the senseless acts of violence, Madonna decided to carry on.
Madonna told the attentive crowd why she decided to go on with the show:
“It’s been very hard for me to get through this show up to this point and not forget about what happened last night. So, I need to take this moment to acknowledge the tragedy…..and the senseless endings of precious life that occurred last night in Paris. It’s disturbed me all day and it’s been really hard for me to get through the show because in many ways I feel torn. Like, why am I up here dancing and having fun while people are crying over the loss of their loved ones? However, that is exactly what these people want to do. They want to shut us up. They want to silence us…and we won’t let them.”
She continued, “I was going to cancel my show tonight, but then I thought to myself, ‘Why should I give that to them?’. Why should I allow them to stop me and to stop us from enjoying freedom? “
Madonna also continued to inspire the crowd in saying, “…there is power in unity… There is more goodness in this world…. We are here to prove it.”
The Queen of Pop took a moment of silence before performing an emotional, touching version of Like A Prayer.
Madonna, over 30 years into her career, has not stopped inspiring the world.
