Our society tends to rush our high schoolers to pick a path and stay with it the rest of our lives. We’re told to go to college and major in the career that you want to do. We’re told this at 18 years old. With such thinking comes pressure to do just that to remain in the good graces of society, no matter how little sense it makes.

When we graduate college, we’re expected to find a job in our field and hopefully, stay with that company for as long as they’ll have us. Vera Wang was a figure skater who failed to make it to the Olympics. She also worked as a journalist. She launched her fashion line at age 40 and remains one of the world’s premier fashion designers today.
Stan Lee had worked as a Broadway usher, newspaper salesman and errand boy. He released his first hit comic book “The Fantastic Four” at 39 years old. He went on to create the X-Men, Spider-Man, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Daredevil and The Avengers. At age 50, he became the publisher of Marvel Comics.
Samuel L Jackson was acting in small local plays and picking up work as an extra in films. At the age of 43, he landed his first major role, playing in Spike Lee’s Jungle Fever.
Martha Stewart had worked on Wall Street and owned a catering firm in Connecticut before her releasing her first book Entertaining. She was 41 years old. Martha Stewart Living started when she was 48.
