DAY 5 CHALLENGE:       Create Your Own Personal Mantra

How To Meet Todays Goal:

A personal mantra is a positive phrase or affirmation statement that you repeat to yourself for focus and encouragement. Take some time in a quiet area and take out your journal or notebook. Let whatever you have been anxious about recently flow onto the page. When you are finished with that, turn one of those anxious thoughts into a positive personal mantra. You will then write your personal mantra on an index card or a small piece of paper and refer to it multiple times in the next 24 hours.

Example #1:

Recent Anxious Thought – I am never going to get out of debt.

Personal Mantra – I have everything I need in this moment to live with abundance.

Example #2:

Recent Anxious Thought – I am ugly.

Personal Mantra – In this moment I am happy in my body.

How It Helps Anxiety:

The word mantra is a sanskrit word meaning instrument of thought. The root “man” meaning ‘to think’ and the “tra” suffix meaning ‘tool’ or ‘instrument’. Literally, a personal mantra is a tool to focus your thinking. Mantras have been used for thousand of years in spiritual, religious and personal development with great success.

As we know so well, anxiety sufferers often let irrational thoughts go unchecked. We began to tackle that issue with the Day 4 Challenge and todays challenge continues with that theme. Your personal mantra will be your definitive statement about where you are in your life right now. You may not be at a place that you believe your mantra just yet and that is OK. In fact, it’s normal. The power of mantras is the repeating of the thought and the focus of your energy on the thought helps block out the anxious thought. Much like what you put into your mouth effects your body, what thoughts you think effect your well being. With a personal mantra, you are nourishing your mind with positivity.

Once you’ve completed this challenge, you can create additional personal mantras. You will want to focus on only one per day.

Creating a personal mantra is a powerful tool to fill your mind with focused, positive affirmations which leaves less room for irrational anxiety producing thinking.
